About Kristin Risberg

I am an experienced educational leader dedicated to building schools where students thrive academically, socially, and emotionally. Currently serving as Principal of Brea Junior High School, I lead an award-winning California Distinguished and PBIS Platinum campus that is committed to equity, excellence, and student success. With more than 15 years of leadership across junior high, continuation, and district-level administration, I specialize in Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS), Restorative Practices, and staff capacity-building. I have directed large teams, overseen WASC accreditation, designed creative systems for PBIS implementation, and launched innovative programs from online academies to college and career readiness pathways. My work has consistently led to measurable gains in student achievement, connectedness, and readiness for high school and beyond. As a district leader, I have successfully managed grants totaling over $1M in a semester, coordinated dual enrollment and CTE programs, and improved California College and Career Indicator scores across multiple subgroups. At every level, I strive to bring clarity, collaboration, and inspiration—whether in bargaining negotiations, staff development, or community partnerships. I am passionate about empowering students and staff, cultivating an inclusive school culture, and using data to drive continuous improvement. My guiding belief: when we create supportive environments and high expectations, young people rise to meet them.
