About Kristoffer Ryan

Since graduating University I have worked at Bureau Veritas Laboratories (Formerly Maxxam Analytics) since June 2018. Starting as a laboratory technician I was able to learn multiple introductory analyses and quickly change departments into an analyst role in the Inorganic Chemistry Lab. Here I was given the opportunity to learn and become experienced with multiple methods and instruments ranging from total suspending solids, PC-Titrate (fluoride, acidity, alkalinity etc.), Konelab instruments (orthophosphates and true colour), and Skalar automated Biological Oxygen Demand analyses. In a high pace laboratory, I was able to prioritize my workload according to Hold-time and Client deadlines in order to efficiently manage days and weeks of work. While I continued to learn new analyses I was able to quickly identify discrepancies between standard operating procedures, reference methods, and bench level practices. As such, I was charged with revising and publishing a new SOP that is used in all BV laboratories in the province. Furthermore, I have a keen eye for troubleshooting and mechanical systems. Notably, when one of our Konelab instruments failed due to an unknown issue, I was able to access the instrument and notice a broken belt for the automated dispenser. I was able to find a replacement and put the instrument back into operation that same day, instead of calling in a dedicated technician.
