About Krystel de Chiara

Early on in my career, I had the honor of leading the Multilateral Relations of the Venezuelan Parliament, as well as lecturing on the History of International Relations at my Alma Mater. After deciding to pursue opportunities abroad, Oxford saw me develop to the fullest my academic potential and quench (a bit) of my intellectual thirst. Besides learning about my beloved Middle East and a whole new language, it also allowed me to co-found and serve as Managing Editor for the Oxford Middle East Review, a student-led project that set out to challenge orientalist and simplistic narratives on the MENA region, while providing a quality platform for students to share their research. For the last three years, Meta has been my professional home (while living in London, Dublin, and now Florence). My job involves anticipating and mitigating risk to LATAM communities when using Meta's platforms. Like in other tech companies, the integrity challenges we face daily are unprecedented and their resolution involve creative problem solving, partnership, and empathy. Misinformation in particular captured my interest, as a ambiguous threat that silently undermines societal trust and democracy. I have been passionate about tackling this challenge from the ops, policy, and Meta's fact-checking partners perspectives. I am always open to discuss potential collaborations and work opportunities in the tech industry and beyond. If you would like to connect with me, please send me a message!
