Background
About Kunal Runwal
I am a Student Data Scientist at Fraunhofer IAIS where I have spent nearly two years specializing in Natural Language Processing (NLP) for German Clinical Texts. I began my journey by creating innovative e-learning solutions for Data Science AI Deep Learning and Prompt Engineering trainings. I then transitioned to the Healthcare Analytics Team focusing on Clinical Named Entity Recognition (NER) Information Extraction and Entity Linking/Medical Coding tailored to the German clinical sector. In my role I have gained hands-on experience with hosting and inferring from local Large Language Models (LLMs) emphasizing prompt engineering and structured output generation. I also specialize in fine-tuning BERT models for domain-specific applications enabling accurate and efficient processing of complex clinical data. I am at the near end of my Master's in Autonomous Systems at Hochschule Bonn-Rhein-Sieg with my thesis concluding in October. Having lived in Germany for almost three years I have achieved a B2 level of proficiency in German which aids my work and daily interactions. Outside of work I am a foodie who enjoys exploring different cuisines. I'm also passionate about staying active through competitive tennis and yoga which help me maintain balance and well-being.
