About Kurt Johnston

I am the Founder and Managing Director of Johnston & Partners. What began as an intellectual curiosity, from being on the project sponsors’ side of capital transactions as an analyst and a fiduciary, has grown into opening Johnston & Partners; a Real Estate Debt Fund focused on being an expedient and sophisticated source of capital for RE Project & Asset Sponsors here in Australia. Although one of many individuals and firms entering the field of RE Private Debt, where my qualities and skills have come for the fore have been in my lifelong drive towards whatever it is that I do, I want to be achieve on a great scale and with no small degree of technical excellence. This has meant no short term ‘finger in the pie’ type of involvements in transactions where I can bring neither value nor capital, and instead a gruelling dedication to live by Stephen Covey’s dictum of “starting out with the end in mind” And so I have; as a First Time Manager I have been able to very quickly build relationships with international providers and underwriters of wholesale risk and debt products to be able to provide a truly institutional quality offering to fund participants. But to allay accusations of crude, self-indulgent hyperbole, my sincere pitch to prospective parties is that this I know this is a relationship based business. And so, picking up the phone to someone to to discuss a transaction, a project, a happening in our line of work, regardless of whether there is money on the table or not, is a profound joy of my working life.
