Kurt R. Smith, D.Sc, is a visionary leader and entrepreneur with a relentless drive for innovation and excellence. With a distinguished career spanning over three decades, Kurt has founded multiple high-tech companies, including Surgical Navigation Technologies - now Medtronic Navigation, and has held various leadership positions at Medtronic, where he spearheaded enterprise-wide strategies and global innovation initiatives. Kurt's strategic vision and entrepreneurial spirit have been instrumental in driving business growth and fostering a culture of innovation. Throughout Kurt’s career, he has: Been on the ground floor in the start-up of over twenty ventures including the founder of Surgical Navigation Technologies which he grew into a pioneering company with over 100 employees and nearly $20M in revenue prior to its acquisition. Led teams at Medtronic to develop and operationalize digital health strategies, resulting in a sustainable value proposition in the value-based healthcare ecosystem. Been recognized as an AIMBE Fellow and a Medtronic Bakken Fellow for outstanding contributions to the field of medical and information technology. Kurt is also a passionate educator and mentor, having served as a Professor of Entrepreneurship and Scholar-in-Residence at the University of Colorado, where he established the Engineering Entrepreneurship Program.
