Over the past two decades I’ve successfully grown a US-based NGO into an international climate organization as well as developed efforts and obtained outcomes in policy, markets and technology innovation that relate to reaching a net zero emissions system. A particular substantive focus has been creating the policies and networks needed to support technology through development phases – from early stage to deployment. Efforts have included a concentration on carbon capture and storage where I helped develop strategies and lead efforts that resulted in the adoption of major CCS policies, such as the enhanced and expanded US 45Q tax credit. I’ve also incubated programmatic advocacy efforts across a range of technologies, including SHR geothermal, nuclear fission and fusion, and zero carbon fuels (hydrogen/ammonia). My approach to developing solution pathways is to merge both top-down systems level understanding with bottoms-up real-world considerations, and looking across all relevant market, policy, technology, social and geopolitical factors. And all within the context of the scale and pace of the changes that need to occur.
