About Kyla C.

Kyla Cassidy is a master’s level social worker who graduated from Memorial University of Newfoundland and a current Doctor of Behavioral Health candidate at Cummings Graduate Institute for Behavioral Health Studies. Kyla holds undergraduate degrees in Social Work from Dalhousie University and Psychology from the University of Waterloo, as well as diplomas in Substance Use & Addictions Counselling and Interprofessional Collaboration. She is registered and in good standing with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers (Registration # 835014). For 18 years, she has worked in institutional, residential and community settings facilitating assessments, behavioural modification plans and therapeutic interventions to individuals who are experiencing complex, chronic and acute mental health crises, end-of-life support, substance use, as well as violence and crime. She has taught courses in developmental psychology, criminology, neuroscience, and addiction studies at the post-secondary level. Her work in the criminal justice system has specifically been focused in the areas of trauma, mental health, motivational interviewing, integrated care and behavioural health. She has worked with acquired and traumatic brain injuries, diverse neurodevelopment, dual-diagnoses, and those receiving palliative care. Using patient-centered and evidence-based modalities, she has provided assessment, systems-navigation support, advocacy, crisis counselling, supportive counselling, and case management services across diverse populations and communities.
