About Kyle Allen

The environment and sustainability have been major drivers in my current academic, and ultimately my career path. As an Environmental Management bachelors’ degree candidate, I strive to live a life based on my passion for sustainability and environmental justice. I am a graduate from the University of West Florida, which has provided me with both scientific and outside leadership experiences. I am seeking an internship where I can utilize these skills, and hopefully obtain a fulltime role in a corporate environmental or sustainability role. Undergraduate Research Projects Aeolian Dune Research The goal of this project is to study and document the affect that strong winds and storms from the Gulf of Mexico have on sediment transport and dune erosion on the Pensacola Beach. We accomplished this by flying UAVs over designated areas and taking hundreds of pictures that were then combined using the Pix4D Mapper and Agisoft programs to create a 3D model of the landscape. This was repeated monthly to produce a representation over the course of a year for the rate of dune erosion and sediment transport. UWF Tree Inventory My role in this project is to create an editable GIS map of certain tree species found on the UWF campus and geotag them onto the map along with additional information like height, width, species name, maintenance requirements etc. The map will serve as a database to be used for the school to achieve a “Tree Campus” designation from the Tree Campus USA/Higher Education program with the Arbor Day Foundation. The goal of this program is to promote sustainability and green spaces on college campuses across the United States. Software for this project included ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online, ArcGIS Field Maps and Microsoft Excel.
