About Kyle Blaney

I am a Canadian explorer, presenter, and nature photographer dedicated to helping high school students reach their full potential. I am a data analyst and Salesforce administrator at Shad Canada and a live-in faculty member at a Shad university campus each July, most recently at Mount Allison University. I mentor high school participants with workshops and presentations on math, software development, photography, travel, and birdwatching. I am incredibly lucky to have explored so many natural and beautiful areas. I kayaked with grizzly bears and watched them mate. I stood in awe as a humpback whale repeatedly breached. I had a flat tire on Yukon's Dempster Highway and was prepared to camp beside the road. I watched a Spirit Bear amble along a wet log and hunt salmon right in front of me. I photographed a bird that baffled North America's leading experts and was featured in three publications. Prior to Shad, I was a passionate software developer for 16 years. I was relentless in my pursuit of the highest quality! In 2008, I was nominated by my site director and won the Nortel Enterprise Gold Award of Distinction for Quality. I strove to write software that was correct, free from duplication, tested, consistent, reviewed, and documented. I refactored mercilessly and constantly looked to improve myself, my teammates, my colleagues and my code base.
