I never dreamt of being an accountant. When I was a kid, I never sat at my desk pretending to work furiously on a spread sheet while a clock counted down the seconds to an imaginary deadline. In fact, up until about my sophomore year of college, it was the last thing I wanted to do. Growing up with two accountant parents jabbering nonstop about closing processes and financial statements was extremely wearing. But apparently I hadn’t tuned out those dinner time accounting conversations as well as I thought I had, for when I took my first accounting class in College, I was surprised to find how easily it came to me and downright shocked to discover that I actually enjoyed it. I went from doing my best to change the subject to raptly listening, and increasingly contributing, to those once deplored dialogues. Unintentionally, unexpectedly, unbelievably, I had found my career path.
