Background
About Kyle Davis
I am very passionate about my work. I never fail, but I don’t always succeed either. I learned this from one of my previous positions at NHI. Being on multiple continuous improvement teams. I learned that only failure comes from not learning and moving forward. You can make the complete wrong decision and still come out ahead. Its all in the data and what you learned to make your next informed decision. I currently moved jobs to help another company, NHTC take the next step. I enjoy this line of work and I believe I’m very good at it. I am currently the Operation Manager with NHTC. It’s a position I have never held before, but my past experiences have set me up well for it. I have found in my 12 years in manufacturing that the only way to lead a team is through respect, trust, and your ability to listen. I have seen multiple different approaches, but I think these are the main building block to run and build a successful team. The key to this starts from the top down. can’t expect someone to respect you without showing respect back. The golden rule that is taught to everyone since kindergarten. This is why I am so hands on in any role I have had. I can not ask a fellow employee or team member to perform a project, task or hold a standard that I am not willing to do myself. If it’s from cleaning out a coolant tank, holding your self accountable or even just being in the building at the same time you ask your team to be. Next is trust, you need to build and give the correct tools to your teams to make them feel empowered to make their best educated decision. You can only blame yourself if the wrong decision was made because the team did not have the proper tools to complete the task. The biggest part is always back your team’s decision, you may not agree with them but remember they made the best decision possible and help them learn from the mistake. Like I said before its only failure if you don’t learn. Help your team learn and empower them to, the good decisions will come. Finally, there is Listen. Nothing brings an employee or team member down faster than not feeling heard. You don’t have to use every idea but hear people out, give them the opportunity to give their” two cents” if their idea isn’t chosen provide feedback. Let the know the reasons. Open communication is key, once a team member doesn’t feel heard, they check out. The workers, indirect laborers have the answers. The answer can not be found behind a desk or in a conference room. The people that do the work know the issues, they live them every day, they need to be part of the solution.
