About Kyle Gordon

I've worn many hats in my software engineering career. I've been a backend developer and a DBA. A cloud architect and involved in SRE. I've built servers in a datacenter. Also built them in a closet. And I've helped orchestrate the migration of thousands of servers between datacenters. I've done "DevOps" and DevOps - the stereotypical form where I use coded processes to build, test and ship code and the true form where I concentrate on optimizing how the organization builds, tests and ships code. As of this writing, the past few years I've been heavily embedded in DevOps. I care a great deal about the productivity of engineering teams and the organization they support. I have a large dislike for inefficiency and find great enjoyment in finding optimizations in situations where others only see trouble. I find it especially interesting balancing developer velocity with promises to the organization of a stable, reliable and secure environment for our product. I do not believe in throw-away work. Organizational time is valuable and every project should have at least some part of it focused on generating improvement once completed. Sometimes that's a new product to do an old job. Other times it's embracing the opportunity to learn and grow with new ideas. Personally I have many hobbies: I love writing, creating music, playing video games, dissecting movies and tv shows, gardening, and spending time around animals. I am passionate about everything I am interested in. As a personal negative I find it hard to be interested in things I am not passionate about. Luckily I also find joy in generating passion where there is none. I believe everything can have a silver lining if you just look hard enough. I have ADHD and Autism. But I don't always fit into the stereotype usually associated with those diagnosis. I am very open about my mental health experience. I hope that I can help change the stigma in some folks minds and provide hope to those who were in similar situations as myself in my teens and twenties.
