Background
About Kyle Manke
Building high-tech, robotic machinery and systems is a multi-layered process. It starts with identifying a customer’s problem and ends with the installation and training on the use of the new system. I’m the Operations Manager at Acme Manufacturing Company in the Detroit area. We produce machines with integrated robotics that finish metal surfaces. Our customers, manufacturers from all over the world, use our automated systems to polish, grind, buff, and deburr their metal parts and products. Acme has been the leader in our industry for over 110 years and is in its 4th generation of family-owned leadership. In my time at Acme Manufacturing, I’ve worked at the beginning of the process doing design work, to the end, where we finally ship our machines to the customer. The common themes of both my work and life are: • First and foremost, PROBLEM-SOLVING. At every stage of production, we’re solving our customer’s challenges AND addressing the many issues that come up during the process. • Designing, producing, and tinkering. I’m a “maker” at heart. I grew up working on farms where there were cash crops, livestock, and maintaining of machinery. In my teens I worked for a home builder. I became a Mechanical Engineer because of my early, farm/construction influenced mechanical interest. • Managing “projects.” When it’s time to fix something on the farm or add an addition onto a home, it becomes a project with a beginning and an end goal. All projects require critical managing and prioritization skills at Acme. • Balancing big picture vision and strategy with precision and detail. Like most accomplished problem-solvers, I can see the forest AND the trees. As an operations manager, I do all of the above and more. My role is critical to moving our robotic machines out the door and to the customer. I have 16 direct reports, collaborate with cross-functional team leaders, and periodically communicate with our customers. My job is never dull, that’s for sure! In my “spare” time, I’m often working on a project or two around the house. It’s not unusual for me to help others with their home projects as well. Whenever possible, I enjoy outdoor activities such as hunting, camping, going to the beach, etc. If building a LinkedIn relationship seems like a good idea, please send me a note along with your connection request. I’m especially interested in linking with people interested in #Automation,#Manufacturing,#Robotics,#MetalFinishing,#PlantManagement,#ManufacturingOperations, etc.
