Background
About Kyle McDermott
Kyle graduated from Griffith University with a Bachelors degree in Urban and Environmental Planning in 2015. Kyle has a passion for providing planning advice that addresses the statutory requirements of local, state and federal policy, while achieving a good design outcome that benefits the client. Kyle has worked closely with senior planners on a diversity of projects, which include but are not limited to; subdivision of large allotments, liaising with government bodies on positioning of signage on heritage developments, subdivision to create small inner city allotments, and participated in data collection used to create governmental policy guidelines. Through his experience in the public and private sector of town planning, Kyle decided to diversify this design toolkit and began a Bachelors Degree (Honours) in the field of Landscape Architecture at QUT, beginning in 2017. Kyle’s decision was influenced by his fascination with how people use and interact within urban spaces. His study in the field of Urban Planning triggered thought in the following areas-Rooftop gardens and the relationship with the Urban Heat Island Effect-The design of open spaces in city environments to meet the changing needs of city residents-Way-finding measures for “First time visitors” to an area, and -Planning and designing our built and natural environments vertically, to discourage urban sprawl. Kyle’s goal is to work as a professional who draws skills from both Town Planning and Landscape Architecture, to plan, design and create urban places and developments that can-Adapt to the environments constant changing systems-Reactivate under-utilised places, and -Encourage active transport. Overall, Kyle believes that by creating great urban open spaces, the idea of living in high density environments will be viewed as a decision that is social viable, economically feasible and environmentally friendly for Australian residents.
