Background

About Kyle Oksiuta

I have recently switched careers and am currently employed as a Donation Support Specialist at the UW-Health Organ and Tissue Donation Department. In a former life, I spent 14 years as a high school teacher, the last 11 of which were at Oregon High School. I began my career teaching a variety of social studies courses, including US History, World History, Psychology, and Comparative Political Systems. Starting in 2012, I created the AP Psychology program at Oregon;~40 students enrolled that first year across two sections. Since then, I grew the AP Psych program immensely, culminating with teaching teach only AP Psychology all day long. At times I had up to as many as 180 students enrolled in the course with class sizes as large as 45. The program has been incredibly successful; in my final year as a teacher, students averaged a 4.23/5 score on their AP exam (compared to state and global averages of 3.10/5 and 2.86/5, respectively). I hold a Bachelor of Science Degree with majors in Psychology, Education, and Broadfield Social Studies (UW-Stevens Point, 2008), and also hold a Master of Science degree in Education (UW-Stout, 2016). I am also a National Geographic Certified Educator (2019).I have been repeatedly recognized for teaching excellence. In 2022, I was named a Herb Kohl Educational Foundation Teaching Fellow, and in 2021, I was named a U.S. Presidential Scholars Distinguished Teacher. In addition, I have been awarded grants by FundForTeachers in 2019 and 2021. In the classroom, I considered myself a "warm demander", someone who held high expectation for his students but offered incredible support to help students achieve their goals. My employment has also extended to the College Board, where I served as an AP Reader in the summers of 2016, 2017, 2020, and 2022. I have many interests outside of healthcare and education. I am an avid world traveler, and have earned over 200 hours of professional development certificate contact hours through Global Exploration for Educators Organization (GEEO). These travel programs have occurred in Iceland, Egypt, Greece, the Baltics, Chile, and Morocco. I have also traveled to Japan, Canada, the Dominican Republic, and Costa Rica for personal leisure.Another passion of mine is personal finance. Although I am not a certified financial planner, I consider myself incredibly knowledgeable in this area and regularly assist colleagues with investing and planning for retirement.
