About Kyle Reed

I am a researcher of international law and international relations, broadly interested in the rhetoric and strategic uses of international law. My work often focuses on questions of human rights and the use of military force and particularly how actors create and contest different meanings of compliance. My research has been published in numerous academic and non-academic outlets including the European Journal of International Relations, the Review of International Studies, and The Washington Post. In my research, I employ a mix of qualitative, quantitative, and computational methods - including text-as-data tools and in-depth historical archival analysis - to understand how states, international organizations, and non-state actors use legal claims to achieve their political goals. I completed my Ph.D. in Political Science and International Relations at the University of Southern California and my MSc in Human Rights at University College Dublin. I am also an experienced educator, having led classes in a range of international relations, political science, and research methods topics.
