About Kyle Strohack

I am thrilled to announce that I am now working for VIA Rail Canada at the Toronto Maintenance Center. More to come in the bio. Formerly worked as the coach repairs supervisor at Toronto's Willowbrook rail maintenance facility, the primary hub for GO Transit's bi-level rail fleet. This is my tenth year working at the site. My main role is to oversee and lead a group of maintenance technicians as they perform repairs and quadrennial inspections on Bombardier's famed bi-level rail coaches. The work scope includes, and is not limited to truck/wheel set removals/installations on a drop table, air brake valve change outs and single car tests, HVAC removal and repairs, door systems maintenance and testing, electrical repairs, and working with human waste systems. I am also responsible for payroll, and have many years experience using Kronos, and IBM's Maximo. In addition to my main duties, I have been tasked with overseeing a small crew in Waterloo Ontario, as they dismantle and prepare the new Alstom LRTs for an in depth, structural inspection as part of a warranty contract with Alstom's Product Introduction team. Health and safety is always a focus. This is my third year co-chairing the site's Joint Health and Safety Committee, having offered many solutions and carried out multiple safety improvements and initiatives in and around a multi-faceted rail maintenance facility. I was employed as the yard operations supervisor for 2021-2022. Here I gained invaluable experience yarding train sets in the busiest time of day, brake testing, planning and overseeing locomotive and coach splits, and learning the importance of on time performance inside and outside of yard limits. In addition to my current role as supervisor, I had previously accrued five years on the tools experience before joining the management team as a supervisor. My years on the floor provided me indispensable working knowledge of the equipment. My four years as a Rail Equipment Operator helped me understand the challenges faced by staff members who continue to hit switches, and perform safety sensitive work on a daily basis. I should also mention that I have an impeccable attendance record and posses strong ethics, and leadership skills. I carry these characteristics with me wherever I am employed.
