About Kyra Hendrix

I am a non-traditional early childhood teacher by trade with a creative edge as a singer-songwriter and a literary center as a book enthusiast. My hope is to one day find the "sweet spot" in bringing all of my teaching, reading, singing, and creative joys into 1 life's work. The teacher has a hybrid role. I believe that a teacher of young children blurs the line between responsive caretaker and educational guide. Children are in need of both emotional regulation and modeling of how to navigate the world around them from the primary adults in their lives. Although teachers do not have the same authority and primary presence in their students' lives, they do have so much time each day to help build the emotional, social, physical, spiritual, and cognitive foundation for children. In the words of Dr. Erica Komisar LCSW, a leading psychotherapist and parent coach, “More is more.” The more rich input of experiences and responsive care that adults give to young children, the better the outcomes for those children across most domains. Teachers serve as extensions of love, care, responsiveness, and modeling for young children while their parents are away.
