About Kyria Brown

I am currently pursuing my PhD in Social Work at the Brown School at Washington University in St. Louis as a Spencer T. and Ann W. Olin Fellow. I graduated with a BA (2017) in Gender and Women's Studies from the University of Wyoming where I was a Ronald E. McNair Scholar. I graduated with a MSW (2020) with a concentration in Organizational Leadership and Policy Practice from the Graduate School of Social Work at the University of Denver and a MPH (2020) with a concentration in Health Equity in Maternal Child Health from the Colorado School of Public Health at University of Colorado-Anschutz. My research focuses on perinatal harm reduction and doulas as an intervention to increase birth equity and reduce birth trauma, especially for birthing people who use substances. My research interests are informed, at least partially, by my past experience as a birth doula.
