About Laila Lorenzon

Graduated in International Relations at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ) in Brazil and currently pursuing a Masters degree in Digital Humanities at the University Paris in France. Throughout my career, I have been deeply involved in various projects, having being a part of the Brazilian Chapter of Internet Society communication's team, conducted research on COVID-19 related data protection policies as a Research Intern for the Digital Rights Foundations in Pakistan, and delved into data protection public regulations research as an Assistant Researcher at the CyberBRICS Project at Fundação Getúlio Vargas (FGV). In 2020, I was honored to be selected as an Ambassador for the Digital Citizen Program, a collaborative initiative by the NGO Safernet and Facebook, in which I delivered activities to promoting digital education for public school youth in Brazil. At the moment I dedicate my time working on the third sector fundraising resources for the development of projects to reduce inequalities in the Global South with special focus on digital rights and the use of Big Data for human development. My primary interests revolve around decolonial studies, digital education and citizenship, as well as community networks, public policies for digital rights, and Internet Governance, with a special focus on studying zero-rating and its effects on Latin America as part of my thesis.
