About Lainey Almeida

I have been deeply influenced by my father’s unwavering work ethic. His commitment to hard work and his new country was evident when only two years after arriving in America, he enlisted in the Army at 18 years old. His values have deeply shaped my own. Striving to live up to his principles, I was honored to receive the Tufts University Medical School Employee of the Year Award, with my father proudly by my side at the ceremony. My big career shift began when a colleague proposed digitizing the University's medical slides and making them available online. We digitized hundreds of slides across various subjects and began uploading syllabi and lecture slides. I received certification in BASISplus, a relational database system, and transitioned to the role of Database Administrator. The database expanded to include various educational tools, evolving into a comprehensive learning management system. When the database migrated to a new platform, my responsibilities shifted to training, user support, technical documentation, and quality assurance, and my role was changed to Training and User Support Specialist; then later promoted to Senior Training and User Support Specialist. The database infrastructure was adopted by universities across the US, India, and Africa, allowing me to meet, train, and support faculty and staff globally. Canvas replaced the previous system a few years ago, and I now enjoy supporting this new Learning Management System. The most rewarding aspects of my role include troubleshooting user issues, supporting faculty in course design, and creating technical documentation. I recognize the great importance of communication and other soft skills in today’s globalized world and rapidly evolving technological landscape.
