About Lakia Arceneaux

My journey began in business as I interned with the Pierce County Human Resources Department. I thoroughly enjoyed working with several team members and analyzing data to make a positive change in the workplace. As I transitioned to education, I then used the skills obtained in the business sector, to help me better perform in the education sector. I have worked in education for the last 10 years as a self-contained special education teacher in the middle school setting. During that time, I created a non-traditional classroom that aided to children’s success. I trained para-educators and teachers to correctly implement the Phonics for Reading and The Syter-Fitzgerald Functional Academics curriculum, how to administer, record and input data for the Washington Access to Instruction & Measurement alternate state assessment and teach de-escalation strategies. I have also been responsible for multiple caseloads ensuring that evaluations and IEPs are in compliance and being implemented. Over the years, my greatest enjoyment has been to see students flourish both academically and social/emotionally. Many of these students have had several challenges and learning new skills is a milestone for most. The joy from both the students and families when a student succeeds constantly reminds to continue to make a positive impact.
