About Lana Hurst

I’m a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) and psychoanalyst-in-formation specializing in trauma, LGBTQ+ mental health, and spiritually integrated psychotherapy. My approach is depth-oriented and relational, drawing on psychoanalytic, somatic, and trauma-informed frameworks to help clients uncover meaning, integrate complexity, and live with greater freedom and integrity. I work primarily with adults navigating religious or spiritual trauma, questions of gender identity, and the lingering effects of rigid belief systems. My clinical work is rooted in curiosity, compassion, and a liberatory frame—inviting what has been hidden or disowned to come into fuller expression. Before becoming a psychotherapist, I served for over a decade in ministry, accompanying individuals and communities through grief, transformation, and the search for meaning. That background continues to shape my perspective as a therapist, educator, and consultant, particularly in exploring how spirituality and psyche inform one another. Currently, I practice at the Psychotherapy & Spirituality Institute in New York City, where I also teach and lead continuing-education workshops on integrating spirituality, gender, and clinical practice. I am also a candidate at Pulsion: The International Institute of Psychoanalysis and Psychoanalytic Psychosomatics.
