Background
About Lance Booth
The most important thing you have to know about my life is that I like telling stories. Ask a question. Compose. Expose. Capture the moment. Get out of your comfort zone. Edit. Tell the story. I have engraved this pattern of thought into my lifestyle — a lifestyle that started years ago and has now become the core of me.People often ask me why I chose this profession, and I don’t know what to tell them. I was never the artsy kid who worked for the high school newspaper with a camera always by my side. In 2006, I was learning computer programming at a local college. I didn’t enjoy programming, but I took a basic photo class at the college and loved it. I quickly transferred to nearby Western Kentucky University to study new media/photojournalism and sociology.Despite the random beginning, I’ve become a journalist with an appreciation for good stories. I love getting out into the community. I love the fact that my work might help people when I’m working for a media outlet. I love editing and piecing together a story. Why did I choose journalism? I have no answer. I didn’t like programming, so I decided to try journalism and hope it worked. It definitely did.I can be contacted at Lance.booth@gmail.com.During my time in college I interned at The (Findlay) Courier, the (Provo) Daily Herald and the Victoria Advocate. I also won a Jimi Lott scholarship, placed 2nd in the Hearst multimedia story awards and won multiple KNPA awards. I often attended the Mountain Workshops and took part in the Appalachian Cultural Project. After graduating in 2010, I received a staff job at the Northwest Herald, where I earned recognition and awards for my video and photo work. I then moved to New Hampshire to work for The (Nashua) Telegraph.I can currently be found bouncing up and down the east coast, but primarily located in or around New York City.
