About Lance Dusing

I started working as a Process Automation Engineer right out of College, and have never looked back. I love the daily challenges ranging from troubleshooting, continuous improvement, optimization, to small and large scale turnkey automation projects. Each day has rewards, as I typically get to see immediate results. I was very fortunate to get my first job in Northeast Minnesota at an iron ore Facility in Northeast Minnesota (LTV Steel), working for a great boss, Jim Scott. I was part of a dynamic team to install and support a new state-of-the-art Foxboro I/A system in the crushing, grinding, pelletizing and power plant facilities. This is where I really learned the many facets of Process Automation, chalking up 13 years of experience, and performing may off chutes related to the field. Unfortunately, the mine shutdown, and I was forced to find work elsewhere. A huge opportunity arose in the Ethanol Industry, where I landed a job with Poet Design and Construction, hired by one of the three founding brothers, Todd Broin. Todd charged me with the responsibility to design, program, install and commission the Process Control System at each Bio-refinery as they were being built. The control system in-use was an ABB DCI System 6. Later, we moved to Emerson DeltaV control system, where I completely rewrote the code from scratch for all new plants going forward. Following 5 years of working for Poet Design and Construction, I moved over to Poet Plant Management as a Process Automation Manager, hired again by another great boss, Rod Pierson. This is where I have spent 10 years, leading a team of 3 Process Automation Engineers and a PI data collection team with the management of 28 Bio-refineries working on troubleshooting, continuous improvement and optimization projects.
