Certified Golf Course Superintendent (CGCS) that is passionate about providing championship playing conditions. With twenty-four years’ experience at many high-profile clubs across the country, I am effective and accurate in maintenance budget (zero-based) planning, agronomic practices, chemical application plans, capital improvement projects/budgets, and capital equipment purchasing. My expectation level for the quality of product my team and I strive to provide is high, so I feel it is important for me to have the ability to train/bring my staff up to those same standards and take pride/ownership in their work. Growing up the oldest son of a farmer/rancher, I fully understand the workload that comes with any field related to agronomy. Since I was young my mindset has been to complete the task at hand regardless of the hours required to finish it. I’ve been challenged with some large construction/renovation projects throughout my career that have required significant hours to complete them within the set deadline. I enjoy advancing my professional development and continuing to learn more about how I can improve upon how I operate my department as a whole. I’ll be the first to admit I do not know everything; however, I take pride in knowing I’ve worked for/with several exceptional Golf Course Superintendents in the past that I can lean on should I need a suggestion on how to handle a particular situation. Organization is pivotal in how my operation is run. I like to be sure that no matter the number of staff members I am managing, I know exactly what needs to be done to ensure that any curve-ball that gets thrown my way can be handled without any issues. Let’s face it, we work outside for a living and Mother Nature dictates things we have no control over, how I handle those situations determines the quality of product my staff and I provide to the membership. Settling for ‘that’s good enough’ or anything short of the clubs expectation is something I have a hard time getting on board with.
