About Lance McCready

Lance T. McCready, Ph.D. is a nationally recognized researcher, lecturer, author and systems thinker in the area of youth/young adulthood, urban culture/development. He is an expert surrounding employment, education and the health of urban youth, particularly those who identify as African (American), Caribbean, Black and/or LGBTQ. He is an active lecturer, speaker, and media resource who enjoys being in dialog with diverse and surprising groups of people. Dr. McCready was born in New York City, earned his undergraduate degree in Psychology from Carleton College and his graduate degrees from University of California, Berkeley in social and cultural studies, designated emphasis in women, gender and sexuality studies. Currently an Associate Professor in the department of International and Multicultural Education at University of San Francisco, Dr. McCready teaches courses on qualitative research, critical race theory, urban education and LGBTQ studies. His aim is to support public consciousness and reframe policy and practice from the perspective of young people put on the margins due to race, class, gender, ability, sexuality, and intersections of discrimination. Dr. McCready lived in Toronto, Ontario for nine years where he was Associate Professor in the department of Leadership, Higher and Adult Education at University of Toronto. There he was a lead researcher on the Black Daddies research project, Co-Principal Investigator of the Many Men, Many Voices (3MV) evaluation project at the Black Coalition for AIDS Prevention in Toronto, Principal Investigator of the Educational Trajectories of Young Black Men study and research advisor for the Black Experience Project. He is available to the press, social impact leaders and curious minds re: issues including: Social media / internet learning, employment, residential segregation, gentrification, anti-black racism, income inequality, homophobic/gender-based violence and school-to-prison-pipeline research.
