About Lance Wiedower

I am communications manager for the Department of Global Pediatric Medicine at St. Jude Children's Research Hospital where I support the institution's efforts to improve survival of children with cancer around the world. In this role, I coordinate and implement messaging opportunities for St. Jude Global regional and transversal programs that further the mission to improve the survival rates of children with cancer and other catastrophic diseases worldwide through the sharing of knowledge, technology and organizational skills. I also create a variety of written and video content that inspires and informs institutional members of the St. Jude Global Alliance. I have more than two decades of professional communications experience, including 15 years in newspapers as a reporter, editor and newsroom manager. My more recent communications roles include those with a particular focus on community health, poverty, neighborhood development and global disparities in health care. As a freelance writer, I have contributed content to local, regional and national publications, including traditional newspapers, consumer and trade magazines, and nonprofit publications. I previously managed a personal travel content brand centered on a unique blog and social media content, and wrote a biweekly travel column for two Memphis news outlets for several years. Before entering my current role at St. Jude, my previous roles also included writing content for a hospital's marketing department, managing an airport rebranding campaign, and serving as project editor of a neighborhood journalism effort.
