About Lara Campbell
As of 1 September,2025 I am Professor of History and Wilson Chair in Leadership and Civic Engagement at McMaster University. Previously I waProfessor of Gender, Sexuality, and Women's Studies at Simon Fraser University. I specialize in 20th Century North American gender and women's history, the history of social activism, feminist movements and feminist theory, and gender and the welfare state. In addition to teaching and publishing, I have expertise working in a wide range of administrative roles at the departmental, Faculty, and university-wide level and have previously served as Dean Pro Tem, Associate Dean, Undergraduate Programs, Teaching and Learning, and Student Experience, Department Chair, Graduate Chair, and Undergraduate Chair. I have co-chaired a university-wide Advising Review, co-chaired a Faculty Advising Review, co-chaired the award-winning Building Community and Sense of Belonging committee (Student Experience Initiative), and served on the Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Committee and Working Group at SFU. My current book is on the history of women and political citizenship and is entitled A Great Revolutionary Wave: A History of Women and the Vote in British Columbia. The book received the Basil Stuart-Stubbs award for best scholarly book on the history of British Columbia (2021), the Canadian Historical Association's Clio Prize for British Columbia history, and received a commendation for the BC Historical Federation Book Award (2021).
