About Lara Duveen

I am a qualified chartered accountant with a strong technical background. I am an independent IFRS consultant, after recently spending time at Mazars in Israel and the UK as financial reporting specialist. I previously headed up the accounting policy team for the Retail and Business Bank, Rest of Africa, and Head Office functions at Absa, where my team provided International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) solutioning to the Bank, together with training and management of technical advisory projects, including the impact of IFRS 9. Before joining Absa, I spent approximately 8 years advising a large number of entities on the requirements of IFRS, concentrating specifically on providing technical accounting advice and training to a number of the large South African banking institutions, as well as a range of other entities, primarily within the financial services arena. Prior to joining the Absa Group, I was an associate director in Ernst & Young’s Financial Reporting Group, and spent a large part of my time attaining an in-depth knowledge of the fundamentals included in IAS 39 Financial Instruments: Recognition and Measurement. I have further analysed a number of annual reports, in order to determine their compliance with the disclosure requirements included in IFRS, and as a result, have an excellent eye for detail. Before joining the technical team, I was an audit manager for a range of different entities, the majority of which were part of large multinational Groups. I have a wealth of experience in a variety of areas, having spent time as an external consultant to entities within the financial services space, in the middle/back office to an equities desk at one of the large 4 South African banks, as well as in a recruiting role at KPMG.
