About Lara Kirkpatrick

I have gained substantial, high level experience working in the government (Commonwealth and State) as part of a complex public sector environment. My positive energy and enthusiasm for my work has improved many teams I have worked in, as I enjoy the challenge of learning new workflows and processes. I thrive under pressure and maintain effective performance levels regardless of the workload pressures. Working with the Commonwealth Government in the Department of Human Services gave me the opportunity to interact with clients, often experiencing various levels of hardship, and understanding the legislative and policy parameters around providing the services and products they were eligible for. Moving from service delivery to the Communications and Media in the Department consolidated my knowledge, to ensure information regarding services and supports. Through working with the Tasmanian Government I am experienced in the constantly changing and high pressure working environment of state politics while maintaining and developing stakeholder relationships. This has strengthened my in depth knowledge across a range of portfolios, and my relationship with the broad cross section of stakeholders I work with. I seek advice as necessary, and have developed a good understanding of government accountability requirements and activities as part of the public service, which has been developed further through my current political role. I also understand the importance of media and communications within government, and am excited by the prospect of evolving social communication and the role it will play now and into the future.
