About Lara Payne

I am an NHS Consultant in Infectious Diseases and Microbiology working in Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells in the UK and I have a joint contract with Kent and Medway Medical School as head of Year 4 Infectious Diseases and Microbiology.I completed my medical degree in the UK at Imperial College London. Prior to this I obtained a Masters degree from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine where I completed fieldwork on a new foci of schistosomiasis in The Philippines. I was an Academic Foundation Program Trainee in HIV and Genitourinary medicine in Brighton.I am driven to improving health outcomes for the marginalised and disadvantaged in our society as well as those in resource poor settings. My passion is Neglected Tropical Diseases and it was my enthusiasm for tropical medicine that led me to working as a Medical Registrar in Cairns Hospital for 4 years. I then moved back home to the UK completing 5 years of Specialist training in Infectious Diseases and Microbiology in London, working in UCLH (Hospital for Tropical Diseases), Guys and St Thomas' and Kings College Hospital.
