About Lara Ripkens

I teach because I believe that education is the foundation to a strong society and in teaching I help to develop young citizens. Education is more than just learning facts and skills, but a means for addressing social problems and improving society. To this end, I believe educators need to be student focused and build strong relationships with students and those involved in their success. Education should also not just be considered an intellectual pursuit, but a way in which the social, emotional, cultural, and physical development of people are balanced in order to create well-rounded, adaptable people. This balance can be obtained by use of authentic, meaningful tasks that go beyond subject specificity to cross curriculums and engage students in critical and creative ways.
