Background
About Larissa Kisner
In my current role, I draw on diverse experiences from juvenile justice, the Department of Defense, childhood education, and now nephrology social work to lead and support 11 Social Work Managers across the Eastern U.S. Our focus is to empower and educate our teams while setting a high standard of care for dialysis patients in diverse settings, from in-center to home dialysis and transplant preparation. With a six-year foundation in trauma-informed care, funded by a grant addressing PTSD in adolescent delinquent females in Pennsylvania, I had the privilege to educate and collaborate with staff, clinicians, and administrators statewide on the impact of trauma. This role provided invaluable exposure to global perspectives on gender-responsive care and trauma-informed approaches. I am also trained in the Sanctuary Model through the Sanctuary Institute, applying its principles to support organizational resilience and trauma-informed practice.Beyond my supervisory role, I am a dedicated speaker and trainer, providing monthly education on managing stress, PTSD, suicide prevention, relaxation methods, DSM-5 insights, and various mental health topics to healthcare and other professionals. My ongoing education in these areas supports my commitment to mental wellness in the workplace.I also bring a creative perspective to my work as a photographer. My latest exhibit, “40 Women Over 40,” celebrates resilience and growth, underscoring my belief that images can drive change as powerfully as words.Specialties: Dialysis Social Work Leadership, Treatment Resistance, Trauma-Informed Care, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, Crisis Management, Situational Leadership, Sanctuary Model, Gender-Responsive Care, Public Speaking, and Training.
