Background
About Larissa Truchan
As a prospective international lawyer with on-the-ground multi-regional experience in human rights advocacy, legal activism research, and United Nations engagement, Larissa is passionate about using the law to promote global justice and accountability within a multilateral framework. After graduating from Boston College with a BA in Sociology in 2021, Larissa spent her past four gap years as part of Harvard Law School's Junior Deferral Program engaging in legal advocacy work in various geopolitical regions of the world to gain a deeper understanding of the diverse social, economic, cultural, and political contexts in which human rights issues exist. Thus far Larissa has studied international humanitarian law in the context of the Syrian and Palestinian refugee crises in Amman, Jordan; facilitated the development of a public interest litigation case on citizenship for long-term refugees using domestic and international refugee and human rights law in Nairobi, Kenya; gained an expert firsthand understanding of UN processes and mechanisms by serving as a UN Youth Representative to the 77th-79th Sessions of the United Nations General Assembly at the UN Headquarters in New York, USA; contributed to feminist efforts that successfully influenced Japanese politicians to adopt more comprehensive legislation on sexual violence against women through use of international women's rights and human rights law in Tokyo, Japan; and engaged with international human rights mechanisms to supplement domestic advocacy for pro-democracy activists and human rights defenders criminalized for exercising the rights to freedom of expression and freedom of peaceful assembly in Bangkok, Thailand. Currently, Larissa serves as the International Engagement Directorate for the Migration Youth and Children Platform, representing the 2025 priorities of network members, equating to over 1.5 million youth constituents from 75 countries, in UN spaces to shape global migration policy at the highest levels. Larissa is also employed part-time by Blueprint Test Prep as an LSAT Premium Tutor and Tutor Mentor, in which she shares her love for learning through creating personalized Study Plans, virtual whiteboards, and lessons for her tutoring students, over 40 of whom have scored an average LSAT score increase of 15+ points. In Larissa's free time, she creates advocacy videos on international and current affairs issues from a human rights perspective.
