About Larry Anderson

I have practiced dermatology for >30 years, served as the chief medical officer at US Dermatology Partners, and currently provide consulting and Board of Director leadership to help medical organizations scale, optimize care for patients, and monitor financial performance. I founded Dermatology Associates of Tyler in 1996. Starting as the sole dermatologist, I built the largest single specialty dermatology practice in Texas. We provided all skin care in one place, incorporating clinical, surgical, and cosmetic dermatology while achieving 30% margins. I was the first to incorporate Mohs surgery and dermatopathology into practice in Tyler. In 2012, I joined forces with a private equity group, Candescent Partners, and we grew to 35 practices in 3 U.S. states. In 2016, we teamed up with Abry Partners and grew to 85 practices in 8 states—we became the fastest growing and second largest dermatology group in the U.S. Reaching the rank of lieutenant colonel, I served in the U.S. Army for 16 years. I was the chief of 2 medical departments (medicine & dermatology) at a large Army community hospital and served on the dermatology academic faculty at Brooke Army Medical Center. I also provided medical care to 10K refugees during the last Cuban exodus in 1994-5. I’m a fellow of the American College of Physicians, the American Academy of Dermatology, and the American College of Mohs Micrographic Surgery and Cutaneous Oncology. I have published 22 articles in peer-reviewed medical journals, including the New England Journal of Medicine. I also served as the first governor-appointed dermatologist to the Texas Medical Board. I enjoy family and travel in my spare time. I took my daughter to all 7 continents before she was 21, and I visited many other countries in my own adventures. The first-hand experience I’ve gained with cultures around the world has increased my sensitivity to patients from different backgrounds.
