Background

About Larry Ayo

I’m an innovation strategist and ecosystem builder passionate about accelerating youth-led innovation and scaling solutions that tackle significant challenges like digital transformation and climate resilience. As Director of Business at SmartLab, I lead the strategy, design, and execution of innovation hubs, startup accelerators, and cross-sector partnerships that empower young entrepreneurs to commercialise impactful digital and climate adaptation solutions. My work bridges the gap between innovation and regulation, advancing public-private-academic collaborations and supporting agile policy development, responsible AI governance and sustainability initiatives. In addition to leading innovation programs, I’m also deeply committed to mentorship, guiding early-stage entrepreneurs, innovators, and youth leaders as they navigate business growth, investment readiness, and sustainable impact. At the heart of what I do is creating environments where innovation, research, and civic engagement come together to deliver scalable, lasting impact in Tanzania and across the region.
