About Larry Blunt

Larry Blunt anchored the WLOS-TV/News 13 6pm and 11pm weekday newscasts, and the 10pm on WMYA-TV, from September 2005 until January 2017. Previously, he worked as an anchor/reporter at KCNC-TV 4 in Denver, CO and for WYFF-TV4 in Greenville, SC. Although best known in western NC for his "Person of the Week" franchise, his prior investigative journalism exposed loopholes in state law that allowed building homes on contaminated sites; uncovered corruption and held public officials accountable; and exposed scams and bad business dealings saving consumers thousands of dollars. His work has been honored with dozens of state, regional and national awards including eight Emmys and honors from the Society of Professional Journalists, National Headliner, the Associated Press, and the Radio-Television News Directors Association. In 2015, he was inducted into the "Silver Circle" of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences, Southeast Chapter, for 25 years of Achievement, dedication, community impact and perseverance in the broadcast industry. He co-hosted the local MDA telethon,"Friends of the Smokies" telethon and Asheville Christmas Parade for years. In his free time, Larry volunteers for Meals on Wheels delivering much-needed food to shut-ins. He and his wife, Jan, raised four children. He is also a U.S. Navy Veteran, a graduate of Purdue University at Fort Wayne, and is a federally recognized member of the Cherokee Nation.
