About Larry Camacho

I have been working in Education since completing my Bachelor's Degree in 1998. During this time I have worked as a Substitute Teacher for Riverside Unified School District, a teacher for the Redlands Unified School District, and currently work for the Bureau of Indian Education at Sherman Indian High School. Along the way I have had the opportunity to work at different levels in Secondary Education, from Middle School to High School. At each school I have worked at I have had a wonderful opportunity to learn from others who have been teachers for a longer time period than I have. I have been able to glean valuable techniques and lessons from all of the people I have worked with. Currently, at Sherman Indian High School, I have had the opportunity to also work as an intern for the school's administration. After we had a reduction in force in 2011, I volunteered to work as the Dean of Discipline for our school. I had the opportunity to learn the basics of the job from the person who was the Dean prior to his leaving the school. I work closely with our Vice Principal, Principal and Director of Homeliving Services in making discipline decisions. Because we are a boarding school that has students from over 15 states, we do have an option of sending a student home if their offense is severe enough. Regardless of the nature of the discipline issue, I do have to call parents on a daily basis to notify them about a referral that their son or daughter has received. In the event that we do send a student home, the parent is notified, then we have to coordinate travel with the parent to arrange travel home. As a teacher, I have been working this year to transition to the Common Core Standards for my Government and Economics classes.
