About Larry Drewsen

With over 30 years experience in an OHS/WHS regulatory environment, Larry has extensive knowledge of the development and implementation of Work, Health and Safety law and its application to a wide range of industry sectors, including the rural, manufacturing, construction and the public and community sectors. Has successfully established strategic partnerships with industry across the construction, education, emergency services and other public and local government sectors. Is qualified in Quality and OHS auditing and has published papers on the application of OHS auditing in a regulatory environment.Larry has previously lectured at Newcastle University in under graduate OHS courses. Commenced working life as an Electrical Engineering cadet/trainee with the Royal Australian Navy and Dept of Defence and after nine years joined the Divisional of Occupational Health in the NSW Health Commission and undertook further studies in acoustic engineering. Went on to join the Professional Services Group in the Department of Industrial Relations. Has subsequently held various positions in WorkCover including the co-ordination of the Chemical Legislation Team, management of the third party audit unit responsible for OHS auditing of the Self Insurance sector and major Government construction, including throughout the construction of the major Sydney Olympic Games facilities. Larry has also been responsible for the development, initiation and marketing of a commercial arm within WorkCover focusing on OHS auditing, successfully competing for contracts for auditing services to major corporations across Australia and South East Asia. Has represented WorkCover on the development of both national and International OHS systems standards and subsequently has a strong engineering, industrial hygiene and systems background in relation to Work Health and Safety.
