About Larry Galizio

Larry Galizio served as president of Clatsop Community College in Astoria, Oregon from 2010-2015. During Dr. Galizio's tenure he was: Selected for the AACC Commission on Academic, Student & Community Development; Appointed Commissioner for the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities; Appointed by the Governor to the North Coast Advisory Committee for Regional Solutions; Appointed to the AACC Task Force on reauthorization of the Higher Education Act; Selected for Oregon's Engineering & Technology Industry Council (ETIC); Selected for the Higher Education Coordinating Commission's Equity Workgroup; Appointed Chair of the Hospital Facilities Authority and Community Leadership Council for Columbia Memorial Hospital; Selected as Finance Chair for the Oregon Community College Association Executive Committee; Appointed to the OCCA Subcommittee on Outcomes Funding and Capital Construction Committees. Prior to the Presidency he served as Director for Strategic Planning for the Chancellor's Office of the Oregon University System. Dr. Galizio served in the Oregon Legislature from 2004-2009 representing House District 35. Among other duties, he chaired the Joint Ways & Means Education Subcommittee in 2007, and co-chaired the Capital Construction Subcommittee in 2009. For 10 years, Dr. Galizio directed Portland Community College's Speech & Debate Program, and was a FT faculty member from 1993-2009. In 2007, Dr. Galizio won the Howard Cherry Award for outstanding Oregon community college advocate. He is the co-author of "Elements of Parliamentary Debate: A Guide to Public Argument,"​ and earned his Ph.D. from Portland State University's School of Urban & Public Affairs. Galizio earned his undergraduate degree at the University of California at Berkeley in Industrial/Organizational Psychology. Go Bears!
