Background
About Larry Kei
I'm an educator and engineer. In University of Toronto, I have learned about construction, transportation and building science within civil engineering. To further pursue my passion in transportation planning, I've completed a Masters degree in cities engineering and management. Throughout 7 years of my time in university, I've met several inspirational mentors that gave me life-changing advice. These advice, knowledge and practical experiences shaped me for who I am today. As an educator, I started volunteering for the university's summer outreach program. The councellors' role was to assist in running engineering activities at a high school education level during class. After learning about the basics of various engineering disciplines, I designed my own civil engineering sampler course, teaching transportation planning and construction management to grade 9-12 students. 2 years of instructional experiences later, I branched out to work on the supporting role for the academy. As an academic team leader, I coordinated with MASc and PhD students to help them develop and teach their own courses. Fast forward to the present, I oversee multiple high school outreach programs providing crucial curriculum design assistance and instructor training. I look forward to the future and am ready for more education work with an even wider audience. As an engineer, I learned the works of construction and project management in Canada's leading contractor, PCL construction, as an engineering student at Mackenzie Vaughan Hospital. I coordinated with 10 sub-contractors to monitor progress of electrical components, plumbing, reinforcing steel, concrete forming, retaining wall, waste bins and equipment transfer. I conducted LEED inspection weekly to ensure quality of environmental protection measures, safety inspections to confirm work plans are in compliance to OHSA guidelines. My biggest accomplishment was the creation of a process to increase efficiency of compiling concrete expense reports to create an estimated savings of $10M in labor hours across all on-going Canadian construction projects. I want to thank all the mentors and managers that helped me understand the ins and outs of the industry. My mission statement is to constantly seek happiness and motivate others in their journey to happiness. I am motivated, passionate and determined. Look forward to connect with you.
