I spent the first third of my medical career in Emergency Medicine, working and staffing urgent care centers and emergency departments at several hospitals. Eventually I was introduced to medical bariatrics (obesity medicine) and have followed that path ever since (1988 to present). I have been actively involved in the American Society of Bariatric Physicians (twice president), as well as its successor, the Obesity Medicine Association (currently on the board of trustees). I have given multiple lectures at the conferences and have served on the speakers bureau and advisory boards of several pharmaceutical companies. I am definitely a people-person and enjoy networking and talking to patients, peers, and industry leaders.
