About Larry Sullivan

For the past 29+ years, I have worked for the GBI state forensics laboratory, first as a Drug Chemist, then as Assistant Laboratory Manager, and now as Laboratory Manager. Other positions I have held at the GBI are Internal Auditor, Safety Manager, and LIMS administrator. With retirement coming up, I am looking to transition into teaching, writing, and instructing on laboratory management and leadership within the sciences, drawing on my experiences in management and leadership over the last 20+ years. Being good on the bench does not always make you good behind a desk. I have come to realize that those in scientific and tech communities are not well prepared when they move up into management positions. My current areas of interest are: •Improve leadership education and implementation within technical and scientific organizations. •Investigate use of business tools and theories within scientific community for better management. •The use and optimization of process management and control in science and business settings. •Examine using scientific training/discipline in business strategy. Having been working in law enforcement for 29+ years, I also see a need to help educate officers in what forensic analysis can and cannot do and also how to better handle evidence in their cases. “Knowledge is power.
