LISTEN - As a passionate musician, I know how important ‘being in tune’ is. I feel the same thing applies to organisations; being in tune with the people you work for and who you work with. Your own voice sounds different in your head, therefore it's valuable to hear what other people think. Like in music, the listening part is the most important. ADAPT - I do not believe in experts, but I do believe in expertise. Expertise means you have a accumulation of knowledge which keeps growing, an expert is something you ‘are’ implying something static. You are not going to find the missing piece of the puzzle by being an expert, when all you need to do is look under the table. Having expertise makes you look under the table. IMPROVE - I look at organisations the way an engineer looks at a car. I see past the design, the functionality or usability. I’m alert for minor cue’s that can provide information about possible (upcoming) errors or improvements and find holes before they are holes. A quote by R.P. Feynman illustrates this neatly en concise “Not one problem is too small or too trivial if you can really do something about it.” Jimi Hendrix could not write “Little Wing” because of years of experience, but by talent and dedication. I might not be the next Jimi Hendrix (i'm certain in fact), but I do possess a decent amount of talent and a lot of dedication, which makes me worth listening to. All I need is a stage and the right amount of amplification. Let’s jam.
