About Lars Wiersma

From a young age, I’ve been drawn to water—whether sailing on Frisian lakes, swimming in Swedish fjords, or witnessing floods in Northern Chile. This early fascination with the natural world has grown into a deep commitment to climate solutions and sustainable development. With 4+ years of experience, I bring together resilience thinking, systems dynamics, and the planetary boundaries framework in my work. I've partnered with utilities and infrastructure organisations to support operational continuity, regulatory compliance, and long-term resilience to climate change. I thrive in international, cross-disciplinary environments, helping build shared understanding across technical, organisational, and cultural contexts. As a researcher and consultant, I work across sectors and disciplines on- Physical and transition climate change risk assessments - Spatial analysis and geographical information systems (GIS)- Nature-based solutions integration - Sustainability reporting (e.g. CSRD)- Risk and resilience strategies (especially climate resilience)- Integrative and adaptive water governance Outside of work, I’m a semi-professional cook and triathlete—always up for a challenge, whether it’s perfecting a recipe or crossing a finish line.
