About Laura Barbieri

As a JSPS postdoctoral fellow, I am studying malaria immunology, socio-economics, and control strategies in endemic areas of western Kenya. I work with researchers in Japan, Kenya, and Sweden. I am based at Osaka Metropolitan University (Prof. A. Kaneko's lab) and IFReC (Prof. J. B. Wing's lab, Osaka University). As an Affiliated Analyst to STINT, The Swedish Foundation for International Cooperation in Research and Higher Education, I participate in science policy and diplomacy initiatives and support the promotion of responsible internationalization, researchers' mobility, and strategic collaborations between Swedish and Japanese Universities/research institutes. I participate in social and education activities for students (i.e, JSPS Science Dialogue with high school students; Canadian Academy International School, Kobe). I advocate sustainable research and related initiatives (e.g, laboratory equipment donations in Kenya with EquipSent). I am interested in Science Diplomacy and the intersectional aspects of Planetary Health, especially the interactions between biological, socioeconomic, cultural, and environmental factors. I believe in education, collaboration, and responsible internationalisation as tools to encourage scientific and social progress!
