About Laura Berneking
I am a physician-scientist and Clinical Scholar (KL2 award) at The Rockefeller University, cross-affiliated with Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. My research focuses on innate immune memory in hematopoietic stem and progenitor cells (HSPCs), with an emphasis on how IFN-γ–driven cytokine circuits and bone marrow niche remodeling shape responses to BCG immunotherapy. I am board-certified in Medical Microbiology and completed my residency in Hamburg, Germany, where I developed diagnostic methods for multidrug-resistant pathogens and studied Vibrio epidemiology in the context of climate change. I earned my MD and PhD from the University of Hamburg, where my thesis focused on Yersinia enterocolitica and the molecular mechanisms by which bacterial effectors reprogram host macrophages.
