I am Laura, the Laughter Fairy. Let me explain. I began my career in dentistry at the age of 16 working for my family dentist filing charts and developing xrays. In 1988, I had a car accident that should have killed me. I broke C5, a pretty important bone in my spine. I lost 75% of my feeling and strength in my dentisting hand. I graduated hygiene school in 1991 anyway. In 2003 I decided to go back to dental school, and got a part time job as a professional Fairy, working at the Carolina Renaissance Festival. This completely fed my inner theater kid and I knew then that I had to be the tooth fairy moving forward. I do indeed still dress up, put on pointy ears, wings and glitter. Everyone needs a little sparkle in their life. I have been the owner of Enchanting Smiles Family Dentistry since 2010. Having been a hygienist first, I think I have a good handle on all the different aspects of running a dental practice. We're silly here on purpose; we have fun with our patients and they love to come see us. They also know they're getting the best expert care possible (plus we all wear tiaras on Tuesdays). I have taken additional training to recognize and treat airway disorders, working closely with my patients' medical doctors. There are a great many people living with an impaired airway who have never even been screened. It's incredibly rewarding to help my patients with this aspect of their lives as sometimes this has gone overlooked for decades. Several years ago I was diagnosed and treated for complex PTSD. As I was learning to reorganize my memories through EMDR, I became increasingly fascinated with neuroscience and how our mind/body connection really works. Drawing on my hard won wisdom from a past of abuse and assault, I now host retreats and have coaching programs that are tailored specifically to professional women. So many of us struggle daily and we just keep pushing through until something breaks. We're so busy taking care of everyone else that we neglect ourselves. As a certified laughter yoga instructor, I also offer team building for businesses of all sizes and have programs ranging from 1 hour to a 3 day workshop to 6-12 month intensive coaching programs using mindfulness, an amazing group community and laughter yoga as some of my modalities. We are only limited by what we believe we can do. Believe bigger about yourself!
